We Help Keep a Midwest Manufacturer Out of the Hot Seat The Client American Iowa Manufacturing is a family-owned business located in Cascade, Iowa. The company has been manufacturing golf and turf maintenance equipment since 1989 and has approximately 30 employees. The Challenge On Sunday, January 14, 2001, flames engulfed the company's office facility. Not only were all hard copies of accounting paperwork ruined, but the fire destroyed the server and the company's data as well. The Solution A long-time client, American Iowa Manufacturing not only trusts us to handle their tax and audit work, but our Integrated Technology Solutions (ITS) Group also helped them set up a local area network and accounting system. As with all clients, we encouraged them to follow best practices, helped them manage their network, and made sure back-up systems were in place. Thanks to the recommendations of the ITS Group already in place, American Iowa Manufacturing did not lose any of their accounting information. The day following the fire, we were on site helping set up a new office facility, ordering new equipment, and retrieving information from their off-site back-up facility. By the end of that week, the company was functional and able to access the information they needed to do business. The Benefits Without the proper recommendations for managing their network and setting up off-site back-up procedures, the company would have lost all information -- information that possibly could never have been recreated. With best practices in place, American Iowa Manufacturing recovered from what could have been a devastating blow to the company. "Monday morning following the fire, our rep from the ITS Group was here ready to assist us," Shane Simon of American Iowa Manufacturing said. "We didn't even have to call, which was fantastic. He was here and within a few hours we decided what equipment we needed to get back in business." The Details Prior to the fire, American Iowa Manufacturing had a local area network with Microsoft Windows NT Server as its network operating system. After the fire, the company upgraded to Windows 2000 Server network operating system. All financial records for the organization reside within a financial management system on the network server. In addition, the network is the depository for all CAD drawings for the various manufactured components. Back-up data resides on the file server and, since the fire, the established procedure for off-site back-up storage continues.
