The McGladrey Classic Donates $150,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia and Special OlympicsCHARLOTTE — (December 16, 2010) — The inaugural McGladrey Classic, an official PGA TOUR event held at Sea Island Golf Club on St. Simons Island, Georgia, recently announced that $150,000 in proceeds from the Classic will be divided equally between the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia and Special Olympics. “While the entire Golden Isles of Georgia community benefited from the positive economic impact of the first-ever McGladrey Classic, the real winners are the individuals served by Special Olympics and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia,” said Davis Love III, PGA TOUR professional, Team McGladrey member and tournament chairman for The McGladrey Classic. “It’s a privilege to continue the tradition of giving back to the community – which is such an integral component of the PGA TOUR – and to support such worthy organizations. “The funds raised by The McGladrey Classic will go a long way toward helping the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia deliver accessible, progressive, fun programs and services that energize, educate and empower boys and girls to become contributing members of their families, their Club and their community,” said Brian Dolan, chief professional officer with Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia. Special Olympics will use the funds to help provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them opportunities to share their gifts, skills and friendship with families, other Special Olympics athletes and their communities. “We appreciate the ongoing support we’ve received through the McGladrey Team Championship and now The McGladrey Classic,” said Tracy DeVries, director of partnerships, North America for Special Olympics. “McGladrey truly understands the needs of the communities in which its employees live and work, and they prove it through their contributions of time and financial support. We look forward to continuing this partnership to benefit Special Olympics athletes.” The sponsorship of The McGladrey Classic expanded RSM McGladrey’s presence in professional golf. The firm’s prior involvement included sponsorship of The McGladrey Team Championship and Team McGladrey, which includes PGA TOUR professional and Sea Island/Saint Simons Island resident, Zach Johnson, PGA TOUR professional, Chris DiMarco and LPGA TOUR professional Natalie Gulbis. Love became the newest member of Team McGladrey in July. “We understand that many of our clients and potential clients enjoy the game of golf. Our client relationships come through understanding, leading to partnerships based on trust and integrity, which align with the cores values of golf,” said C.E. Andrews, president of RSM McGladrey, a leading professional services firm providing tax and business consulting under the McGladrey brand. “The most gratifying thing about sponsoring The McGladrey Classic is having the opportunity to give back. Supporting Special Olympics and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia is an extension of our firm’s rich history of giving back to the community.” The 2011 McGladrey Classic is scheduled for October 10–16 at Sea Island Golf Club on Saint Simons Island, GA.
