Jay
Matsen
A WorkLife case study
With
20 years of accounting experience, Jay Matsen had a lot of choices
where to work. He chose McGladrey & Pullen, first and foremost
because of the company’s WorkLife culture.
Matsen is an
audit supervisor in McGladrey & Pullen’s Tacoma, Wash.,
office. Ten months out of the year he works with a variety of clients
including manufacturers, not-for-profit and family-run businesses.
But during July and August, Matsen suits up and fights forest fires
in the Pacific Northwest. The work is hot, dirty, dangerous…
and incredibly rewarding.
“Working
as a fire fighter and with search and rescue groups allows me to
give back to my community,” said Matsen, who also volunteers
with his community’s local fire department.
Matsen had worked
at other public accounting and corporate finance departments before
coming to McGladrey & Pullen.
“McGladrey
& Pullen is one of the few public accounting firms that really
understands the importance of having a flexible work environment,”
said Matsen.
He especially
appreciates the company’s willingness to extend medical benefits
to Matsen during the months he is away fighting fires.
